Basketball Coach Wants Franchise For Star Players
Niger Potters Basketball Team Coach, Adamu Kuta, yesterday said that, adequate franchise for star basketball players as models would guarantee a better and increased revenue for the Nigerian leagues.
Kuta, made the assertion when he spoke with newsmen in Abuja, on ways to strengthen basketball leagues in Nigeria.
He said that government’s promotion of talented players in areas of global advertisement was imperative for a greater league.
“Star players like Abubakar Usman of Kano Pillars ought to be used by the Nigerian government to promote basketball in Nigeria as Barcelona uses Lionel Messi.
“This will go a long way in opening windows of opportunity for not only the players but bringing in stars from around the world into our country,” Kuta said.
The coach, who described basketball as a game with untapped potential, said that tax relief was necessary to build the game.
He explained that corporate bodies that were interested in promoting basketball should be given tax exemptions.
According to him, such considerations will trigger more interests and successes in the game to Nigeria’s economic advantage.
Kuta said that it was time to motivate spectators and basketball followers through friendly policies.
He urged Nigerians to continue to support basketball, adding that the game was capable of taking Nigeria to higher levels.
