Association Moves To Boost Oil, Gas Business
A body under the aegis of Association of Surface Tank Oil and Gas Retailers (ASTROGRN) has assured that it will promote broad-based participation in the oil and gas sector, by decentralising its activities to the local levels and communities in the country.
The move, according to the body is in line with Federal Government’s agenda to empower youths through the establishment of productive ventures such as modular refineries, mechanised agriculture and N-Power development programme.
Chairperson of the body in Rivers State, Comrade Patience Uche, dropped the hint during the inauguration of the local government executive of ASTROGRN in Rivers State recently.
She charged the newly inaugurated local government executive members on delivering of set objectives, and disclosed that the main aim of the body “was to mobilise its members to have outlet licence from the Department of Petroleum Resources, (DPR) so as to boost grassroots involvement in the oil and gas sector and increase Federal Government revenue on surface tank Retail business”.
Comrade Uche pointed out that the initiative would reduce petroleum supplies from foreign marketers through importation of products and “kill the spirit of bunkering and pipeline vandalism which destroys the natural environment and causes revenue loss to government”.
She called on members of the association to avail them of the opportunity to promote economic activities in their respective communities as well as developing their capacity for self-empowerment.
In his remark, the Zonal Chairman of the association, Pastor Kurubo Gold, commended the Federal Government over its objective of empowering the people to participate in the oil and gas sector through the issuance of liscence by the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) to enable them own surface tanks for product selling. He called on members and the youth to take advantage of the opportunity to enhance their economic wellbeing and become useful in the society and assured that the association would protect and encourage surface tank oil and gas retailers to invest in Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) business in Nigeria.
