APC Crisis Spreads To Bayelsa
The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, appears to have spread to Bayelsa State as the state chairman was expelled last weekend.
The National Secretariat of the APC last Friday said the Bayelsa State Chairman, Chief Timipa Orunimighe had been expelled.
In a letter addressed to the former chairman, Chief Onimighe and signed by the National Secretary of the party, Hon. Mai Mata Buni stated that the party adopted the recommen-dations of the party’s South-South zonal execu-tive committee which delineated the former chairman’s anti-party activities in the state.
Hon Buni in the letter directed the former party boss to hand over the property of the party in his possession to the zonal vice chairman, Bayelsa Central Senatorial District.
Sources hinted The Tide that the expulsion came on the heels of an earlier recommendations made by the APC, South-South Zonal Executive Committee, which had deliberated on the disciplinary measures against the chairman.
Preya Apreala who spoke to The Tide on phone condemned the decision, noting that the former chairman only opposed imposition from the leader of the party, Chief Timipri Silva.
Apreala said the decision would kill the party, stressing that members do not have a say unlike what is happening in Rivers State.
Another chieftain of the party, My Godwin Tommy disagreed with Apreala, explaining that the two high- powered committees can not be wrong.
He noted that those who were members of the committee were members of the National Working Committee and as such cannot mislead the party.
Tommy urged members to always respect party hierarchy and the leadership.
