Amaechi, Abe Rift: Obuah Meets Supporters, Calls For Peace

The Rivers State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bro. Felix Obuah has met with a cross section of the All Progressives Congress (APC) members who are supporters of Senator Magnus Abe and Transportation Minister, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi in an effort to sustain the existing peace and progress in the state.
The PDP chairman, who spoke on the backdrop of the severed relationship between the two chieftains of the APC, charged politicians to exhibit characters that would engender peace and development of the state.
Obuah said he was moved to intervene in the rift, noting that both Abe and Amaechi were his subjects, adding, “we only differ politically; we are all Rivers people”.
The state PDP chairman said he would not renege on his philosophy of politics without bitterness, calling on political leaders to propagate peace at all times irrespective of party affiliations.
Obuah called on other political parties to borrow a leaf from the PDP which concluded her ward, local government and state congresses without raising any agitations.
“The sole objective of politics is to enthrone good governance to the people. Politics should be devoid of a situation where members of the party would feel slighted, and the leadership must not attempt to hijack the party for pecuniary interests and self-aggrandizement”, Obuah advised.
In their separate speeches, the supporters thanked Obuah for his peaceful disposition, describing him as a worthy, exemplary and non-partisan leader in the state.
John Elechi, who spoke on behalf of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s supporters, said they were highly pleased with Obuah whose mature and dispassionate approach in settling the rift has gone a long way to douse tension.
He gave assurance that his group would take Obuah’s advice seriously, and chart a new course in the state APC.
In his response, representative of Senator Magnus Abe’s supporters, Neeka Nwiepe said Obuah’s move was invaluable, and described him as a God-fearing man.
Nwiepe also assured the PDP chairman of their resolve to toe the line of peace in the state, noting that Obuah has left no one in doubt on his passion for a strong, peaceful, progressive and united Rivers State.
They unanimously agreed to convey the decision reached at the meeting with Obuah to their leaders.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has commended Governor Nyesom Wike for being one of the senior Nigerian citizens to receive President Muhammadu Buhari on arrival at Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja, over the weekend after 105 days of medical vacation abroad.
The state Chairman of the party, Bro Felix Obuah, in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Jerry Needam described the exemplary gesture of the governor as a display of the spirit of sportsmanship, which should be imbibed by all politicians.
He noted that Wike’s consistent goodwill and prayers for the quick recovery of the president while he was away, have never been in doubt, and will continue to showcase his love for others and his nature as a detribalized leader.
Obuah said by setting political differences aside and teaming up with other concerned Nigerians to welcome Mr. President back home, Wike has set another pace among his peers that leadership goes beyond party politics.
The state PDP boss thanked Wike for not only preaching one united and indivisible Nigeria, but also demonstrating non-partisanship on issues of national interest.
Obuah hoped that the president’s resumption of duty will put the wheel of democratic governance in the country back on track as the only way to put those lip-service loyalists who have been feeding fat on the president’s health-induced absence parking so that the nation can move forward.
The state PDP chairman, while thanking God for the president’s recovery, also prayed for the recovery of the APC in Rivers State from mediocrity and cluelessness to appreciate the giant developmental strides of Wike in only two years in office.
