Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have called for the immediate sack of the Rivers State Chairman of the party, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya over alleged misconduct in the Local Government Congress of APC held in Rivers State, penultimate Saturday.
A group known as the Buhari Support Organisation (BSO), which picked holes in the conduct of the local congress of the party in state, accused Ikanya of highhandedness and ulterior motives.
In a press statement made available to The Tide, the body said the Local Government Congress of the APC in Rivers State was fraught with irregularities, as Ikanya shut down the state party secretariat and moved to Novotel Hotel to conduct the congress against the will of the party.
The statement, which was signed by the Director of Youth Mobilisation of the body in Rivers State, Prince Morris, also called for the suspension of Ikanya over his misconduct, and demanded an “unreserved apology to members of the party for acting against the will of majority of party members”.
The body also passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership of Ikanya as the state party chairman of the APC, and asked him to tender his resignation as soon as possible.
The statement read in part, “We call on all youth to resist all forms of intimidation, and impunity in the party, officials of the national headquarters of our party were kidnapped with the intent of hijacking the electoral process. Later, names of loyalists to the state party chairman and the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, were written”.
The body commended the effort of the national leadership of the party for setting up a fact-finding and appeal panel to investigate circumstances surrounding the botched Local Government Congress of the party.
The group said it had already appealed to the national leadership of the party to wade into the impending crisis that beclouded the party in Rivers State.
It would be recalled that irregularities at the Local Government Congress of the APC in Rivers State have continued to raise dust in the party.
