2019: EITI Wants Free, Fair Polls

Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (EITI), has called on the civil society community in Nigeria to work towards free and fair elections in 2019.
A board member of EITI, Faith Nwadishi, said this in a lecture titled: “Overview of EITI Standards and Accountability Principles ( and Implementing CSO Extractive  Accountability) at a seminar orgnised by Publish What You Pay (PWYP), a non-governmental organisation in Port Harcourt.
Nwadishi said that transparency in governance can only be guaranteed when civil societies engaged in the process of electing leaders for the country.
According to her, the situation will go a long way in ensuring that leaders with untainted records are elected into power to serve the interest of the people.
According to her, the process of transparency and accountability in governance can only be guaranteed when civil societies engage actively in the process of governance.
She said that EITI was working with the Nigerian Extractive Industry Transparency Initiative (NEITI) with the view to ensuring transparency in the Nigerian extractive industry.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the President on Open Government Partnership (OGP), Mrs Juliet Ibekaku said that the present administration’s policy on open government partnership has promoted transparency and good governance in the country.
Ibekaku who was represented by one Chidinma Ilechukwu urged more collaboration between the OGP secretariat and civil societies in the country.
She said that president Buhari’s administration is ready to work with civil societies to guarantee transparency and accountability in governance.
