Wike Tasks New Permanent Secretaries On Service, Loyalty
Newly sworn – in Permanent Secretaries in the Rivers State Civil Service, have been charged to be loyal and work for the development of the state.
The State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike gave the charge last Saturday while swearing-in new 17 Permanent Secretaries at Government House in Port Harcourt.
Wike informed them that their appointment was a call to duty and not for pecuniary benefits, as they are expected to improve any ministry they are assigned to.
In his words,” give us the necessary cooperation so that the state will move to the next level,” further saying that, “this opportunity does not come always. Use it to make a mark and if you know you cannot cope, then, we will allow you to retire now.”
Disclosing plans to re-jig the civil service, Wike decried the corruption affecting the service but assured that his administration was working to sanitise the system.
Consequently, the State Governor hinted that his administration would ensure that each local government area has a permanent secretary.
He said the new permanent secretaries were chosen on merit and fairness as most of them had been at the director level and served for many years.
Apart from Tai Local Government Area, he noted that currently almost all the LGAs have a permanent secretary, promising that the ones left out will soon be accommodated.
