The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has added the prestigious “Best Governor On Infrastructure for the Year 2017” Award to the plethora of awards received within the last two years as governor.
Speaking to airport correspondents at the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, shortly on his arrival from Abuja, yesterday, the Sole Administrator of Greater Port Harcourt City Development Authority (GPHCDA), Amb Desmond Akawor said Wike stood out as the best performing governor among the 36 state governors in Nigeria.
Akawor, who received the National Housing Award in Abuja on behalf of the governor, noted that one good thing about the award was that it came from a source they never expected.
“This is the 11th edition of this award, which means it has been on for the past 11 years. The good thing about this award is that it came from a quarter we never expected.
“I received the award on behalf of the governor. While seated there, I was sitting with APC governors, and the chairman of the occasion was the APC National Chairman, and the special guest of honour was the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola.
“The organisers of the programme said they did an independent investigation and found that among the 36 state governors, Wike was outstanding in infrastructure development.
“For me, particularly, when I received the award on his behalf, mere mentioning of his name, received a heavy applause. That is to tell you the kind of person we have as governor,” Akawor said.
On the way forward, the former ambassador said that the award will spur the governor to do more for the people of Rivers State, especially on infrastructure development.
He said that Rivers people will see more of the dividends of democracy as the governor was bent on upgrading more infrastructure in the state, adding that Wike has a covenant with Rivers people on infrastructural development.
Reacting to the current development in the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) following the Supreme Court judgement, Akawor said that Nigeria now has hope, adding that the party will be stronger and stable to provide the much needed leadership.
