SUG Election: RSU Students Fault e-Voting Process
More facts have continued to emerge from the just concluded e-election of the Students Union Government of the Rivers State University.
The Tide was told that the process which was said to be fraudulent was executed by some experts from Aba.
A source who pleaded anonymity, pointed out that the e-election was not in the best interest of the students sequel to the circumstances that surrounded the system.
According to the source, at about 8am on the day of the election last month, a particular presidential candidate already had over 800 votes with the aid of the hacker he hired from Aba.
The source said such outcome led to the cancellation of the process at that morning before the portals were re-opened later in the day.
He regretted that students could go that wild in the name of election, saying that subsequent elections ought to be properly managed by the school authority.
The Tide gathered that both camps consulted their separate Information Technology (IT) experts in an attempt to win the election.
A student, who gave his name as Monday Igwe, called on the institution’s management to henceforth make its ICT centres the only authorized polling unit.
He said that the system of allowing the students to manage the e-election system themselves was not ideal saying that students have a way of abusing every system.
Igwe noted that electronic system remains the best as it had eradiated violence among students during election.
Other students like Prince Julius, said that the system should be re-designed in a way to encourage a kind of secret e-voting.
Earlier, he had cautioned against the issue of hiring hackers during the e-election, saying that the students must set the pace in rebranding Nigeria’s electoral processes.
