Speaker Forcloses RSHA’s Feud With Wike
The Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani has declared that the 8th Assembly under his leadership will continue to do what is right and good for the government and people of the state.
He also foreclosed any attempt by the assembly to distract the Governor Nyesom Wike-led government, saying that insinuations to that effect by opposition politicians in the state were baseless.
Speaking recently before the business of the day at the Rivers State House of Assembly, the speaker, apparently responding to statements credited to one Mfata Mfata of the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, said the alleged feud only exists in the imagination of the opposition politician.
He, however, lauded the inclusive administration of Governor Nyesom Wike, which he said, has not left any section of the state behind in the implementation of development projects, programmes and policies.
“If Chief Nyesom Wike is doing well in terms of providing dividends of democracy to the people, as partners in that development programme, we have been meeting and sitting with the governor to also give him our inputs as to projects that can be sited in our various local government areas, and it is testimonial enough that today, in the third session of the Assembly, Rivers State is enjoying dividends of democracy”, he stressed.
Meanwhile, two petitions were presented at the plenary, one against the neglect and injustice meted out to Odiemude community in Ikwerre Local Government Area by Risonpalm Nigeria Limited, as well as another on alleged unprofessional and excessive display of official position by one Dr. Mimi Hart.
The bills presented by Majority Leader, Martin Amaewhule and Edison Ehie, respectively, were accordingly referred to the House Committee on Public Complaints and Petitions, while debate on the report of House Committee on Environment investigating the compliance level of companies operating in the state to environment laws was deferred.
In a related development, the Rivers State House of Assembly Press Corps has honoured lawmaker representing Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Constituency 1, Christian Ahiakwo, with award of the Most Outstanding Lawmaker in the state Legislature in the second quarter of 2017.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the press corps, Allwell Ene, said the award was in recognition of the lawmaker’s dedicated service as the Chairman of House Committee on Environment.
Responding, Ahiakwo, thanked the press corps for the recognition, which he said, would encourage him and other members of the committee to work harder for the good of the state, while dedicating the award to God, his constituents and members of his committee.
