Security Gaurds Want FG To Ban Unregistered SIM Cards

Piqued by the increasing rate of kidnapping and criminality across the country, members of the Association of Licensed Private Security Practioners of Nigeria (ALPSPN), Rivers State chapter, have called on the Federal government to ban all unregistered SIM cards used in making calls and added that  such measures would check insecurity in the society.
The State Chairman of ALPSPN, Rev Mark  R. Abere, made the call while briefing journalists after a general meeting of the group held at Somite  Hotel in Port Harcourt.
Abere disclosed that the call was the association’s position as a measure to reduce and win the war against kidnapping, cultism and other anti-social activities threatening the peace of the state and indeed the country at large.
He averred that those committing the crimes often called the family of their victims with un-registered Sim cards that cannot be tracked down by security operatives and added that, in such a situation, it was difficult for security agents to rescue victims on time.
The ALPSPN condemned the GSM  service providers in the country for encouraging unregistered Sim cards to be used in making calls and added that such practice portended danger in the country.
Abere used the opportunity to call on those engaging the services of their members to ensure prompt payment of their contractual agreement and added that irregular payment of the contractual agreement to the companies and individuals was hampering their service delivery.
According to him, “most companies and government are owing their members, hence, staff hired by these private security companies are not paid their monthly salaries in order to enable us effectively deliver our mandate.”

He described the association as important in the society especially in areas of crime prevention and assured of their support to security agents in the fight against crimes in the state.
Also speaking, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Port Harcourt, Maj-Gen Enobong Udoh represented by Brig-Gen E-S Buba, Commander, 6 Brigade military intelligence lauded the association for their contributions in the fight against criminalities as well as their support and collaborations.
In his own speech, the state Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Mohamed Lawal Aruna represented by the deputy commandant, G.U. Miebi urged the association to make information gathering as a critical aspect of their work in order to assist security operatives fight crimes in the state.
He averred that the state command was satisfied with the way the association carrying out their operations in the state and urged them to report those unlicensed private security practioners to the command.
In her good will message, the desk officer of NSCDC in charge of private security guards in the state, Mrs Claire Nnenna Okpo said members of the group need not to carry arms in order to be effective in crime fighting and added that the presence of private security guards in the society deterred criminals.
