Search For S’Eagles Keeper Shifts To NPFL
Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr has decided to shift his focus to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) in his search for a national team goalkeeper, an official of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has revealed.
According to Tidesports source, Rohr is in desperate search of a reliable shot-stopper, an aftermath of the Super Eagles 2-0 defeat to South Africa in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Daniel Akpeyi started between the posts for Nigeria in the loss, but many feel he isn’t an adequate replacement with the West Africans yet to truly replace Vincent Enyeama.
“We read that Rohr is thinking of inviting South Africa-based former U-23 goalkeeper, Emmanuel Daniel to the team, but all I can say is that the issue is more serious than that,” our sourcedisclosed.
“We must beat Cameroon in Uyo and to do that we need the best players we can get hence, the decision to look for the best goalkeepers around to come and prove what they can do.
“Apart from goalkeepers, the manager has been in touch with the players needed for the matches against Cameroon and everybody has agreed that we must treat the game with the seriousness it deserves.”
Nigeria takes on the Indomitable Lions in a 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the end of August.
