Resign Now, PDP Tells Amaechi
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Rivers State has called for the resignation of the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi over allegation of non-performance.
The Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Samuel Nwanosike, at a press briefing, yesterday, said the minister has demonstrated incompetence in the discharge of his official duties.
He said that the call became necessary because Amaechi had failed to fulfil the campaign promises of his party in the state, which included renovation of the Port Harcourt International Airport immediately after the elections.
Nwanosike, said that it was sad that two years into the administration of the All Progressives Congress-led government at the federal level, the Port Harcourt International Airport has remained at the level former President Goodluck Jonathan renovated it.
The PDP publicity secretary said: “Look at the Port Harcourt International Airport, which he used as a campaign tool against the government of Jonathan, two years later, nothing has been done since Amaechi became minister other than what former President Jonathan did in the past.”
He said that the Minister of Transportation had not been able to attract any federal presence to a state he represents at the federal cabinet, adding that the only railway project that had been commissioned by the Ministry of Transportation was the one completed by former President Jonathan.
Nwanosike regretted the lack of adequate representation of the state by the minister, saying that he has not been of any use, in terms of attracting projects to the state.
“The minister that is representing us today in the Federal Executive Council was the former governor of Rivers State few years ago. His name is Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, the minister of transportation.
“Having looked at all his activities for the past two years, as a party, we have come to the conclusion that Amaechi has failed in representing Rivers people. As such, we are asking that he should honourably resign as the minister of transportation for gross incompetence and lack of expertise in the management of the affairs of the Ministry of Transportation,” he said.
The PDP spokesperson stated further that it was sad that the representative of Rivers State in the Federal Executive Council would commence the plan to concession Nigerian Port Authority without adequate consultation with the stakeholders.
“It is also sad that several institutions in Rivers State, which fall under the purview of the minister have neither received attention nor been given the needed facelift.
“That under the leadership of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi as minister of transportation, Nigerian Port Authority is about to be sold to private company. This is the same attitude Amaechi had while he was in Rivers State as governor, during which virtually all the infrastructure that our founding fathers kept for us, he sold before he vacated Government House at the end of his tenure,” Nwanosike added.
