Poor Condition Of IDP Camps Worries 2 Face
Foremost Nigerian singer, Innocent Idibia popularly known as 2 Face or 2 Baba has revealed the pathetic conditions of the Internally Displaced Perons (IDP) camps in North Eastern part of Nigeria.
2 Face who took a three-day trip to the area recently, visited several camps in the region and noted that the lingering insurgence in the area which left thousands of people dead, millions injured and displaced from their homes with property worth billions of naira destroyed had nothing to do with religion as insulated but had to do with politics.
The veteran singer who addressed reporters in Maiduguri immediately after the visits said, “unless government and politicians step up their games by doing the needful in eradicating poverty among the masses, particularly youths and do justice to all manner of people, ending insurgence and other forms of violence currently happening in some parts of the North East and the country as a whole maybe difficult and unrealistic”.
The musician who spent three days in Borno State on his solidarity visit to IDP camps in Banki, a border community with Republic of Cameroon and other resettlement areas in Maiduguri, the state capital, said he met “saddened and pathetic conditions of IDPs in camps”.
He urged government, security agencies, media practitioners and other humanitarian agencies to scale up co-ordinated efforts in addressing the plights of IDPs and other victims of violence as well as nip terrorism in the bud, adding that he was in Maiduguri with support from UNHCR to use his music in contributing to alleviate the sufferings of our IDPs and other victims of insurgence.
“In my little way, I have come and seen the lives in camps and when I go back to Abuja, we are going to do a concert and donate the proceeds in alleviating sufferings of IDPs in the country”, he said.
