The State Government of Lagos has recently given two days to all proprietors of unlawful shanties and structures in the Obalende district to eliminate them.

Naij News informs that the government explained that such illegal shanties always blocked drainage channels and obstructed free water flows. Therefore, it always causes flooding when it rains heavily in this district.

Lagos State Chairman, Olayinka Egbeyemi, also revealed that the early six-month notice from the government had finished recently. He told that the flooding in some areas of the State was a human-made catastrophe, but not a natural phenomenon.

“I ask possessors of all unlawful containerized shops and shanties in Obalende to take them away within two days of the notice. Otherwise, the government will destroy them,” concluded the chairman.

As flooding is approaching, Olayinka Egbeyemi is sure that people will cooperate to the limit.
