The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), has called on the Federal Government to pay closer attention to the development of the Port Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa.
The Institute has also expressed concern and worries over the level of development of infrastructure at the airport, describing it as the least and most backward in the ranking of international airports in the world.
President of ICAN, Alhaji  Ismaila Zakari, who made this known to aviation correspondents at the airport, while on a visit to Port Harcourt Tuesday, said that what is seen currently at the airport does not befit the status of Port Harcourt.
“This Port Harcourt airport needs special and serious attention. After Lagos airport, the next is this Port Harcourt in terms of revenue generation. The Abuja International airport is in the capital city of the nation.
“I am appealing to the authorities concerned to do everything possible to ensure that this airport is properly developed in terms of infrastructures.
“The buildings are not completed and time has been wasted so far. International flights are coming here, and I think it is not so good for such foreign operators to come here and begin to see this kind of structure in a place called an international airport”, he said.
The ICAN President was in Port Harcourt for the foundation laying ceremony of a 350-seater theatre for the Accounting Department of University of Port Harcourt.
He said the building is part of ICAN’s contribution for the development of education in Nigeria.
