RSG Plans Football Academy

Plans by the Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike to build a football academy after his dear club, Real Madrid of Spain lifted the champions Cup last weekend dominated the news last week in Government House.
But before the Champions League winning celebrations last Tuesday night, the Governor through his aide on Electronic Media, Simeon Nwakandu made a press statement last Monday over surreptitious moves by some school proprietors to de-list their names among private schools to be shut down by September 2017 by State Government.
According to the press statement, “These proprietors have resorted to bribing top officials of the State Ministry of Education to have their schools re-certified without due process”.
The governor’s media aide insisted that, “only the Rivers State Governor has the authority to re-certify any of the illegal schools marked for closure”.
Speaking last Tuesday night during a victory party hosted by the governor in Government House for fans of Real Madrid Football Club, Spain after they won the Champions League Trophy last weekend, Chief Wike revealed that talks have commenced over establishing a football academy.
He said football has become an empowerment tool and Rivers youths will be engaged productively, “We will work with the management of Real Madrid Football Club to ensure that a football academy is sited here in Rivers State”.
The deputy governor, last Tuesday, felicitated with General Overseer of Deeper Life Christian Ministry, Pastor William Kumuyi on his 76th birthday. Dr Ipalibo Harry-Banigo described the cleric as, “one of the greatest exponents of holiness through his teachings which encourage Christians to exhibit Christ-like character”.
Last Thursday, the governor granted audience to United Nations Resident/Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr Edward Kallon. The governor regretted that nothing has so far been done on the Ogoni Clean-Up.
He emphasised that the Clean-Up of Ogoni land should not be politicised, as it affects the livelihood of the people.
On the same day, the deputy governor, who is the State Chairman of Boundary Adjustment Committee, received a summary of the report on Barako Nwebiam Boundary Demarcation. She expressed satisfaction with the work done by the committee and promised that the report will be forwarded to the governor for approval and action.
The governor, last Saturday, had a day filled with activities. In the morning and under the rain, he took time off to inspect projects within Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor and Eleme Local Government Areas.
The governor visited ongoing renovation works at Produce House, Moscow Road, National Industrial Court, the Trans-Amadi-Elelenwo Road, Woji-Akpajo Bridge, Dualisation of Elelenwo/Akpajo Road and Ogbunabali internal roads. He also inspected ongoing works at the Court of Appeal and Chief of Army Staff Guest House.
He was however represented at an award by United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre International Programme as “Mayor of Peace” by his deputy, Dr Ipalibo Harry-Banigo.
Later in the day, Chief Wike in company of his wife, Justice Suzette-Wike, attended a special 20thAnniversary of Air-France/KLM Operations in Port Harcourt. He also later unveiled a brand new hotel in Port Harcourt.
