Ramadan: Some Athletes Continue Training While Fasting – Adeniji-Adele
Technical Director, Lagos State Kickboxing Federation Adegboyega Adeniji-Adele, says some Muslim athletes have opted to continue training during the ongoing Ramadan fast.
Adeniji-Adele told newsmen yesterday in Lagos that the athletes chose to continue their training schedule as build up ahead of their competitions later this year.
“Ramadan fast is compulsory for every Muslim; but there are inevitable situations where one can be exempted which one must make-up for later.
“For some of our athletes that have competitions ahead, they need to be in top shape and get adequately prepared for optimum performance.
“However, they must fast to complete the number of days skipped, so it is something they all know and will abide by it,’’ he said.
Adeniji-Adele said it was also important for the athletes to continue training in order to maintain their fitness level and be conversant with new techniques.
According to him, the pace of training was usually adjusted in order to encourage Muslims among the athletes to be part of the activities.
“We try to encourage athletes to be consistent in training in spite of the situation, because of the technical nature of kickboxing, which athletes must adjust to.
