Navy Flags Off War College In Rivers …Beefs Up Security In N’Delta

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Olonisakin, has commissioned a temporary Naval War College in Rivers State, saying it is in line with the determination of the Federal Government to strengthen security in the Niger Delta region.
Speaking at the ceremony in Ubima, Ikwerre Local Government Area, Olonisakin said that the Naval War College will adequately equip naval personnel to effectively discharge their responsibilities of protecting the territorial waters of the nation.
Also speaking, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, said that the Naval War College will serve as the highest training institution for the Navy.
He said that the training school has accommodation, medical facility, lecture halls and other necessary equipment, stressing that personnel of the Navy would be trained in essential components of naval operations.
Ibas said Ubima was chosen as a temporary base for the Naval War College because of the urgent need to set up the institution.
The naval chief lauded the Rivers State Government for its contribution to the college, saying that the training school will help satisfy the core mandate of the Navy in the Niger Delta.
The commissioning ceremony was attended by the General Officer Commanding 6 Division of the Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Major-General E. Udor, Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaki Ahmed, representatives of other military and paramilitary institutions as well as security agencies and Secretary to the State Government, Sir Kenneth Kobani, who represented the state Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike.
