Environmental Standards: SON Moves To Enforce Firms’ Compliance

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has promised  tougher  measures to ensure  that companies  comply with  environmental  standards in their operations.
The measures, the organisation said was against the background of the continuous flouting  of environmental standards by companies.
A Director in the organisation, Engr. Abner  Said this in Port Harcourt during  an  environmental awareness  campaign  with the theme: “ISO 14001 2015.
Engr. Abner said that the campaign  was meant to  awaken Nigerians to their responsibilities of  ensuring   proper  environmental  standards with emphasis on providing  answers to questions  on what to do to save the environment.
According to him,  Nigeria is diving deeper to worst abuses in air, water and  soil pollution, adding that our world is changing because the environment  is in danger.
Also speaking, Mr. Agu Chigozie  said that his company, Genesis Foods and  Bereages is fully in compliance with Environmental Management Standards in their operations. He stressed  the need for the Standard  Organization of Nigeria (SON), to intensify efforts towards ensuring  compliance to environmental  standards by companies, operating in the state.
Also speaking, a representative of  the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority ( NDBDA) Girlie Siminialaye, urged  SON to  step up its campaign  towards ensuring environmental compliance by companies in the state.
She said that NDBOA not  only ensures  compliance  with environmental  standards, but  ensures that its contractors do so.
Earlier, the Rivers/Bayelsa  coordinator of SON, Mr.  Aguiyi Princewill, said that the campaign  was meant  to raise  awareness  on the  dangers facing the environment.
He also said that, the organization is doing more on enforcement  and compliance and urged  other agencies empowered statutorily, to  prosecute and  punished offenders  to do them work.
