Cleric, Others Condole Obiano Over Mother’s Death
More Nigerians have commiserated with Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State over the death of his mother, Mrs Christiana Obiano, on June 2.
In his message, the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, the Rt. Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, described news of the death as shocking.
The bishop’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Abuchi Onwumelu, said Ezeokafor described the matriarch of the Obiano family as a pious Christian and a disciplinarian who led an exemplary life.
He prayed that God grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss and noted that no one could question the decision of God.
“May God grant the Obiano family the grace to bear the loss and also grant her soul repose,” he said.
Willie Obiano Support Group described the death as a great loss in spite of the fact that she died at the ripe age of 90.
The Chairman of the group, Chief Jude Emecheta, said members of the organisation wished Christiana stayed longer to see her son sworn-in as a second term governor.
“It came to us as a great loss, especially at this time when we are going into election, it is our desire that she lived longer but we cannot question God.
“We are happy that she left her footprints in the sands of time, we stand by Governor Willie Obiano at this time and urge him to remain focused while we pray that God strengthens him.
“She was an accomplished woman who gave Anambra one of their best governors,” he said.
Also consoling Obiano, Chief Rommy Ezeonwuka, founder of Ogilisi Foundation, said the governor should take heart as death was unavoidable.
Ezeonwuka, who is also a member of Board of Trustees of APGA, said the spirit of the party was with the governor at this trying time.
“I just heard what happened to mama, please take heart, may her soul rest in peace.
“I want you to be strong, and I assure you that the spirit of APGA will continue to direct and win more victories for you even as we prepare for the November 18 election,” he said.
In his message, the National Auditor of APC, Chief George Muoghalu, expressed sympathy with Obiano and the entire family for the loss.
Muoghalu, who is also an aspirant for the November 18 governorship election, said the death came at a time when her wise motherly counsel was most needed.
He also prayed the family to bear the loss with fortitude and Christiana’s soul to rest in the bosom of the Lord.
