Activities in the Rivers State House of Assembly (RVHA) last week commenced with a plenary session at the hallowed chamber of the House.
Only 14 lawmakers of the 32-member legislature were present at last Tuesday’s plenary.
At the session, the lawmaker representing Asari-toru Constituency  II, Hon Enemi George presented a motion on the danger involved in the continued use of tyres to burn meat for consumption in the state.
George, who explained the danger involved in the burning of meat with tyres, prayed the Assembly to take serious steps to save the lives of Rivers’ people.
Sequel to debates on the motion, the speaker of the Assembly, Rt Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani announced  the resolution of the House to summon commissioners incharge of the state ministries of Health, Environment, and  Agriculture to appear before the House to explain the continued use of tyres to burn meat in abattoirs in the state.
The speaker directed the clerk of the House, Chief Standford Oba, to invite the state ministries involved before the next  plenary session of the House.
Last Thursday, the chairman of the Assembly Committee on Peace and Security, Hon Smart Adoki, led the committee members to a peace meeting with the repentant cultists in Eleme and Khana local government areas in the state.
Adoki pledged the Assembly’s commitment to the welfare of the repentant cultists from Ogoni axis and the state at large, especially those enlisted in the state governments’ amnesty programme.
The committee chairman also challenged youths in the area to make something meaningful out of their lives instead of resorting to crime.
Speaking on behalf the repentant-cultists Comrade Ejor Alloy blamed  the spread of violence in the area on youth unemployment.
He called for concerted effort by the state and Federal Government in addressing unemployment challenges among the youth in the area.
