Assembly Pledges Commitment To Repentant Cultists’ Welfare
The Rivers State House of Assembly (RVHA) has pledged its commitment to the welfare of repentant cultists from Ogoni who enlisted in the amnesty programme of the State Government.
The Chairman of the House Committee on Security and Peace, Hon. Smart Adoki gave the assurance, Thursday, when he led members of the Committee to a peace meeting with youths in Eleme and Khana local government areas of the state.
The lawmaker also assured the cultists that the Assembly would meet with the State Governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, to work out modalities on setting up a task force comprising different repentant cult groups for surveillance jobs in the state.
He pleaded with the ex-cultists to drop all their differences and join hands with the government to bring lasting peace to the state.
“We have come as members of the State House of Assembly to preach peace, we have come to beg you people to stop the crisis and bring crime and criminality to an end.
“Stop all forms of kidnapping, armed robbery, theft, among others. It won’t be better, after all said and done, we start hearing that you have commenced hostility again,” Hon. Adoki appealed.
