Abe Unpatriotic, Uninformed – Rivers Patriots
The Senator representing Rivers South East in the National Assembly, Magnus Abe and his co-travellers in Abuja have been accused of misinforming the public on the security situation in Rivers State to score unnecessary and undeserved cheap political points.
The assertion was made by the Coalition of Rivers Patriots while reacting to Senator Magnus Abe’s comment on the security situation in Port Harcourt at a forum, in Abuja, where he said that “Port Harcourt is so unsafe that people are relocating to Abuja”.
In a statement signed by the Publicity Secretary of the group, Barrister Thompson Barilede, the Patriots maintained that nothing can be farther from the truth, describing the alarm as a fabrication by fleeing politicians who are being hunted by the ghosts of the violence that they visited on Rivers people during the administration of former governor, Chibuike Amaechi.
The statement further accused Abe and his co-travellers of being responsible for their imagined insecurity in the state, given their desperation to win the last election by all means.
The group further insisted that Rivers population was intact, and that nobody was fleeing as falsely claimed by Abe, stressing that it was only those who have been instigating insecurity in the state such as Abe and his co-travellers that have relocated to Abuja.
The statement in part: “Rivers people are in Rivers State. Those who claim to have relocated to Abuja are only being economical with the truth as they have since been on self exile because of the atrocities they committed in their quest to win elections at all costs.
“People are not going to Abuja because Port Harcourt is unsafe, the handful who are involved are doing so because they want to run away from the shadows of their atrocities against Rivers people in the quest to achieve their political ambitions.
“Governor Wike has been working with the security agencies and devising ways and means of curbing crimes /criminality in the state. It is on record that the state enjoyed peace and conviviality during the Golden Jubilee celebration of the creation of Rivers State in spite of the influx of thousands of visitors from across the country and beyond, confirming that the alleged insecurity only existed in the imagination of those who do not mean well for the state”, the statement maintained.
While warning Abe and his like-minds to stop blaming others for their failure and that of their sinking party, the Patriots observed that the poor state of Nigerian economy resulting in declining business activities and increased unemployment was fallout of the poor economic policies of the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government.
According to them, Wike has, in the past two years, surpassed all previous leaders in infrastructural and manpower development in the state.
