89,547 Register For 2017 JSS3 Exams In Rivers
Rivers State Commissioner for Education, Prof Kaniye Ebeku, says over 89, 547 students registered for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for Junior Secondary School 3 students (JSS3) in secondary schools across the state.
Ebeku, who made this known to newsmen recently after a monitoring exercise of the examination in some schools in Obio/ Akpor and Port Harcourt City local government areas of the state, noted that the state government has put in place necessary measures to ensure a smooth conduct of the examination.
The education boss stated that as much as the number was, this year’s examination stands out in terms of conduct and peaceful participation on the part of students and teachers.
“The examinations are ongoing, and we’re happy that in general everything is going on well. There are a few challenges here and there, but we thank God that those challenges, which are natural situations, are being handled and everything is going on well.
“We have monitors going round the schools and filing in reports to the ministry, which enables us to rise to occasions when they arise. Generally, we’re happy over the success recorded”, he said
Most of the principals, who spoke to The Tide in separate interviews affirmed the commissioner’s stance, noting that the 2017 JSS3 examination stands out in several ways in terms of conduct.
According to one of them, who spoke on condition of anonymity, “the exam is going on very well, there’s no problem. Yesterday, they all had their papers, today they’ve all had their papers, and it is one paper to one person as it should be.
“We had no hitches: no shortage of materials, no issues about mix-up in the names and numbers of students, etc”, she said.
