WKU Championship: RSG Pledges To Support Winners

Rivers State Director of Sports, Nathaniel Piaro has said that the state government will do what he could to support Kickboxing Union to enable the winners of the just concluded King of Ring Championship compete in the world Championship in  August, in Ireland.
Piaro said this while fielding questions from sports journalists at the end of the competition at the Basketball Complex, Niger /Bende Street Old Port Harcourt township, organised by World Kick Boxing and Karate Union (WKU).
According to him, kickboxing is assisting the state to reduce criminality and other social vices, as they are creating job opportunities for the youths.
He equally said that the sports is one of the most entertaining and protecting sports which was over looked years back and appealed to WKU President, Nizar Taleb to organise more competitons to motivate the youths.
“If you will be chanced I appealed to you to introduce new sports into the state”, Piaro said.
Speaking at the event the President of WKU. Taleb said he is overwehmed with the number of male fighters who participated in the championship, but expressed disappointment over their female counterpart that did not turn up in their numbers.
The WKU President further pledged to organise another competition for young fighters.
At the end of King of the ring champinship, Nigeria Army Corporal Ochefu Godwin won the heavy weight category title belt (minus 80kg), while Dandison Brown, from spartangym won minus 60 kg category title belt.
The WKU used the forum to issue certificate of promotion to 32 fighers who also participated in the championship, consequently the certificate issued also qualitfies them as professional kickboxers in Nigeria.
Dignitaries who attended the occasion are; Rivers state director of Sports, Sir Nathaniel Piaro, Haytham Taleb, Ahamad Jordali, Abdullah Taleb, Khalil Taleb, Khail Taeb, Salah Taleb and Salah Taeb, who represented various companies that partner with the championship.
