Udi People Dump Chime Over Defection

Barely 48 hours after defection by the immediate past Governor of Enugu State, Barrister Sullivan Chime, from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), his kinsmen, the people of Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State have not only abandoned him, but have also dissociated themselves from his decision to join the APC.
The aggrieved people of Udi made their feelings known last Sunday during a solidarity visit to Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State at the Government House, Enugu.
A speech read by the Chairman, Udi Consultative Forum (UCF) stated that they had defied all odds to come to Government House, Enugu because something unusual had happened in Udi Local Government Area and Enugu State in general.
Their words: “Our visit was not planned. It is the spontaneous response by the people to a strange event that took place in Udi. Yesterday, our son, Barrister Sullivan Chime who is the immediate past governor of this State, distanced himself from the people of Udi in particular and Enugu State in general by abandoning the political platform through which we all supported him to become governor of Enugu State. In doing so, statements credited to him have been mind-boggling because it was the PDP that propelled him from obscurity to political prominence, serving for two uninterrupted terms of eight years”
“We recognise that Sullivan Chime has the right to choose whom to associate with. In his address, he said that he decided to come back into active politics for the interest of his people. We are his people and we make bold to State here that the only meaningful interest of his people is social justice delivered in form of functional hospitals, good roads, employment, provision of pipe borne water, well equipped schools and rural electrification. Barr. Chime was governor for eight years but he did not deliver on these primary needs of Udi people”.
According to them, “It is obvious that Chime did not defect to APC to protect the interest of Udi people. We are here to make it clear that Sullivan Chime is totally on his own. Since he has decided to move in a different direction, we want the world to know that we are not with him on this journey to infamy. We expected Barr. Chime, especially, to stand behind Governor Ugwuanyi in his revolutionary transformation of Enugu State which he has embarked on and pursued vigorously in the past 2 years.
Continuing, the aggrieved people of Udi further said”.
