Recharge Cards’ Price Hike: Subscribers Carpet Firms

Telecommunication providers in the country have been told to declare their position on the increment of recharge cards by retailers.
A section of subscribers who spoke with The Tide last Wednesday in Port Harcourt, said the service providers especially MTN were yet to state the true position as regards recharge card price hike.
A subscriber, Emperor Nnaoma, said that the service providers should be held accountable for the increase in recharge card prices.
He noted that it would be difficult for the retailers to sell at an increased rate when they are buying at a normal price from the producers.
Nnaoma, regretted that many issues of public interest are always treated with levity, while un-important things receive better attention.
Another subscriber, Daisy Okpara, said that the retailers are only out for their profit without concern for the subscribers interest.
According to him, it was criminal for someone to be charged extra 10 or 20 percent to purchase recharge card.
Okpara said that if that must be done, a notice should be put across to phone users as to alert them about the new development.
She maintained that every development in the country was always against the masses interest while those at the top smile home on daily basis.
Others also accused the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) of not doing its legal job as concerns regulation of the telecommunication industry.
They reasoned that if the agency were on ground, the irregularities in the recharge card sales would have been long discovered.
It would be recalled that the NCC has denied the alleged increase in recharge card sells, arguing that they are yet to get feed back from the service providers on the issue.
