As the celebration of Rivers state golden Jubilee on Saturday, May 27, 2017 draws nearer, the perfoming musicians Employers’ Assocation of Nigeria (PMAN), Rivers State Chapter has decried the alleged exclusion of members of the Assocation from the various activities and programmes to mark the historic event.
The State Chairman of the Assocation, Mr. Robin Maja, in a recent interview with The Tide entertainment, noted that PMAN as an embrella body of all musicians in the state should be duely recognized and carried along in all the ongoing events instead of being ignored and relegated to the background, while their contemporaries from other states are hired and paid huge sums of money to perform at the events.
He disclosed that a letter to this effect had been written to the Chairman, performance and exhibition Sub Committee, Rivers state Golden Jubilee Celebration Committee dated May 3rd 2017, but no positive answer had been received as such members of the Association are not happy with the neglect.
The Chairman stressed that PMAN should be involved in all issues of music with regards to the forthcoming celebration. He said as entertainers, the success story of the historic event cannot be complete without the involvement of PMAN especially those roles that are exclusively for musicians. He therefore appealed to the Chairman to ensure that all musicians invited to perform at the Golden Jubilee celebration passed through PMAN which is constitutionally empowered to regulate music and welfare of musicians in Nigeria.
Mr. Maja emphasized that PMAN deserves their rightful position and recognition to enable the body contribute their quota to the development of music in the state. He stated that if their complaints are not ade4quately addressed, the Association may be forced to boycott the celebration and also seek redress in a court of competent jurisdiction as a civilized and law abiding group.
