PHED Assures End To Four-Day Power Outage

The Port Harcourt Electricity  Distribution Company (PHED) is  expected  to resume normal  supply of electricity to Port Harcourt, the Rivers  State Capital, and its environs today, after four days power outage.
The Public Relations Officer of PHED, John Onyi, who gave the indication  said the outage  that has engulfed  the city for the past days was as a result of a repair work on the Afam Power Plant by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).
Onyi, who pleaded with the company’s customers to be patient while the maintenance work lasts promised that normal supply would be restored today as TCN is expected to conclude the maintenance work on the power plant.
The Tide reports that the electricity supply situation had affected socio-economic life in the city and electricity consumers were looking forward to the end of the outage.
Some consumers who spoke to The Tide on the situation frowned at the regular breakdown  of the power plant.
Ngozi Manufor, a teacher said: “it  appears that TCN repairs the plant every three or four months. It  means that the plant is aged and there is need for replacement.”
However, Maxi Jonathan, urged PHED  to remember to deduct the outage period from the bill issued to consumers.
He said: “I want to remind PHED to deduct the days of outage from the bills they will issue to consumers. Experience  has shown that light supply or not,  PHED always issues nearly the same bill in its estimations to innocent consumers.
“The outage has been like hell I hope it ends Monday as the company promised”, he said.
