No Clear Favourite For NPFL Title … -Ex-Warri Wolves Coach

Dutch coach, Ard Sluis has revealed he has enjoyed the improved and unpredictable Nigeria Professional Football league this season.
The former Warri Wolves handler acknowledges the competitiveness of the ongoing topflight campaign, but admitted that there is ‘no clear favourite’ to lift the title.
“The overall level of individual players is very good. The level of play is lower because very few teams really show how to play together. Which is the main difference with playing in Europe,” Sluis noted.
“The NPFL is very competitive this year. There is no clear favourite and many clubs can clinch the championship.”
On what he has been up to since leaving Warri Wolves, Sluis discloses: “I’m here in Enugu with Vemard Africa FC. We have a very young group of good players. And the purpose is to develop them into great players who know how to play according to a philosophy and are able to execute a game plan.
“Warri Wolves was the first government run club I’ve coached and I’m very much trained in the Johan Cruyff philosophy and that is the guiding philosophy.
“Outside of maybe the Eastblock countries, you don’t see that much. Just the very nature of this fact makes it a difficult endeavour to be successful in developing players since there is no incentive to invest in players longer term.
“Regarding offers from different clubs in the elite league; it all comes down to making crystal clear agreements so that there can be no confusion. Then it’s just a matter of executing my philosophy on the field so we can win prizes,” he concluded.
