Improved Water Supply: Gov Procures N800m Equipment
The Niger State Government says it has procured equipment worth over N800 million to improve water supply in Minna, the State capital and environs.
The General Manager of the State Water Board (NSWB), Mr. Hassan Chado said this in an interview with newsmen in Minna.
Mr. Chado said the development was part of the programme by the government to improve the living conditions of the people.
“The Niger State Government has purchased electric motors, water pumping machines, generators and other equipment worth over N800million to improve waters supply in Minna and its suburbs.
“The equipment will be installed at Chanchaga water works as soon as they arrive this month.
Chado said the measure would ensure sustainable water supply to the people pending when government would commence the rehabilitation of all water facilities in the State.
“The work on Chanchaga water works is to alleviate the sufferings of the people in the interim, pending the turnaround maintenance of water facilities across the State.
He said government could not solve the problem of water supply in the State at once, adding that it would be tackled in phases.
The General Manager identified epileptic power supply, old equipment as some of the challenges hindering water supply in the state.
According to him, the state government had finalised arrangement s to embark on turnaround maintenance of all the water plants in the state to ensure adequate supply.
Chado however said the government had restored water supply to New-Bussa in Borgu Local Government Area of the State.
