Group Alerts RSG On Communal Crisis …Rejects Imposition Of CDC Chairman
The leadership of Chokota youth in Igbo Kingdom in Etche Local Government Area of Rivers State, has called on the state government to urgently intervene in the crisis brewing in the area as a result of the decision of the Ochimba of the community to subvert the will of the people, by allegedly hand picking a candidate for the position of Community Development Committee (CDC), of the area.
The youth leadership also accused the Ochimba of the community, Chief Ishmeal Okechukwu Nweke, of trying to throw the community into an orgy of violence.
Speaking to The Tide in an interview, last Monday in Port Harcourt, the youth President, Comrade Hanson Elebe, urged security agents to call the Ochimba to order in order to forestall a total breakdown of law and order in the community.
Comrade Elebe averred that the action of the Ochimba if not stopped will create crisis in the area and urged him to rescind his decision in the interest of peace in the area.
According to him, the community has a tradition of how leaders are chosen into various positions, adding that the process has been through election and selection.
Also speaking, the Deputy President of the youth body, Comrade Anderson Martins Onyekachi, stated that the entire youths have vowed to resist the attempt to force any candidate on the community and insisted that the normal process of choosing a leader in the community must be followed.
Comrade Onyekachi said it was wrong for the Ochimba to select and adopt a candidate when there are other contestants vying for the same position.
He used the opportunity to call on the paramount ruler of the Kingdom, His Majesty, Eze Samuel Ndiwe Amaechi and security agents in the area to urgently intervene on the matter before its gets out of hand.
“We will not accept such unilateral decision taken by one man to force a particular person on the entire community”, he said.
Efforts to reach the Ochimba for his reaction proved abortive, as he could not respond to calls placed to him.
