Expert Tasks Farmers On Mechanisation

An agricultural consultant, Mr Emamuzo Okerri has called on farmers to avail themselves of the services of tractors in order to avoid stress in their farming activities.
In an e-mail response sent to The Tide correspondent, Okerri who described farming as a beautiful venture however, added that it could be tedious and back-breaking.
He explained that the advent of tractors was a welcome development to large-scale farmers.
While acknowledging the cost of getting a tractor, Okerri explained that “if you take time to weigh the pros and cons and balance all cheques, you will realize that utilizing the power of a tractor is good decision”.
Okerri, who also writes for Agric Ignite Africa Magazine, disclosed that farmers were at liberty to choose between small-sized, intermediate and large-sized tractors according to their financial ability.
He explained that the choice depended also on the land size and production size of a given farm.
The agric consultant however, recommended the intermediate sized tractors, describing it as most economical to acquire.
“This is because one intermediate-sized tractor can handle numerous farming operations just by attaching the appropriate equipment to the tractor”, he explained.
He further advised farmers to go into leasing or hiring considering the cost implications.
