The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has advised the All Progressives Congress (APC) to assume the responsibility of performance   conferred on its by its victory during the 2015 Presidential election and desist from giving flimsy excuses.
Wike spoke, last Friday, while flagging-off the dredging/sand filling and reclamation of Abalama in Asari-Toru Local Government Area and dredging/Sand filling and Reclamation of Bakana in Degema Local Government Area.
The projects in Abalama and Bakana towns span 38 hectares.
Wike said that the Rivers State Government was redefining politics in Nigeria by ensuring that campaign promises are kept.
He said at the separate flag-off of the land reclamation projects: “We are redefining the pattern of politics in Nigeria. You cannot use people and dump them.
“We cannot give everyone money, but we can execute projects that everybody will benefit from.”
Speaking on the failure of the APC-led Federal Government to live up to the expectation of Nigerians, he said: “We are not like those who said they will make N1 to be equal $1. Instead of actualizing their promise, they are busy giving excuses”.
The governor urged the APC-led Federal Government to settle down and focus on fulfilling the several promises they made to Nigerians.
He said that the APC got the mandate on the strength of their promises to Nigerians, saying  that it was uncharitable for the APC-led government to be finger pointing when it should be  working.
“Instead of working to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians, they are blaming the previous administration”, he said.
The governor said the dredging, standfiling and reclamation projects which run through the three Kalabari local government areas, will entrench development in the area.
“The last time I came here for campaign I promised that if you support me to win, I will carry out some projects. That is why I have come to fulfil my promise”, Wike asserted.
“We in PDP, when we make promise, we fulfill it. Tell those who make promise and never fulfill them not to come and deceive you” he further stated.
Wike urged the people of the community to support the company undertaking the project to complete it on schedule, and also advised the company to reciprocate by providing jobs for the youths of the town.
He also announced that the sum of N5million has been released to complete the Degema General Hospital, pointing out that he will liaise with the commissioner of police to build a police station in the community to forestall insecurity.
In Abalama, he announced that his administration will construct the Telma-Ifoko Road.
In his remarks, the state Commissioner for Works, Mr. Bathuel Iheayichukwu Harrison, pointed out that the reclamation of the 19 hectares of land, when completed, will ease the difficulties faced by the people of Bakana.
