CVR: INEC Registers 200 In PHALGA
Barely one week after the Continuous Voters Registration commenced nationwide, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commended the massive turn out of eligible voters in the various local government areas in Rivers State
The exercise has been successful in most of the local Government Areas in Rivers State following the sensitisation of the public by the various government organisations in the state
.The Tide gathered that INEC offices at the local government have witnessed several prospective voters for registration, hence, a system was adopted to cope with the situation.
Speaking to The Tide, the Assistant Electoral Officer (AEO), Administration, INEC Office Port Harcourt, Mr Francis Ikem said the exercise has been successful, adding that the commission has so far registered about 200 persons.
Ikem said that due to the rush, the commission decided to adopt a system to register only 50 persons per day since the exercise is a continuous one and will run until 2019.
According to him, “if we allow everybody to come at once, the place will be crowded and might cause crisis. We however adopted a process for the public to write down their names and phone numbers and we call them later to come over to capture and register for the exercise at their convenience’’.
