Confed Cup: Rivers Utd Targets Club African’s Scalp

Rivers United will not ‘leave any stone unturned’ in their CAF Confederation Cup encounter against Club Africain, according to Ayobami Asekunowo.
The Pride of Rivers trade tackles with the Tunisian outfit at the Stade Olympique de Radès in their opening Group A tie on Sunday.
And Ayobami is adamant that they will avoid a repeat of their Champions League ouster in Sudan earlier in the season.
“We know that Club Africain have a lot of fans that watch and support them, but what we saw in Sudan has given us huge experience as to what to expect on the continent,” Asekunowo told
“The turnout in Sudan was massive, the stadium was filled to capacity. The fans in the stands were so massive that we couldn’t hear the referee’s whistle.
“Communication amongst the players right there in the pitch was very difficult because of the noise level.
“We are expecting such in Tunisia as well and we are prepared not to get distracted, we aren’t under any pressure and we won’t leave any stone unturned.
”The confidence here in our camp is very high, we’ve learnt a lot from our match in Sudan,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Bernard Ovoke has said that the team is  targeting CAF Confederation Cup success.
The Pride of Rivers have endured an uninspiring start to the season both domestically and on the continent.
They were however, given a second chance in Africa’s second-tier club competition after being ousted from the Caf Champions League. And Ovoke says that they are going for glory.
“First, I will like to thank God for making it possible for us as a team to make it this far.  It has not been easy considering the expectations and fixtures but like I said, it has been God,” Ovoke stated.
“On the continent, we have made the group stage and now the only target before us is to win the trophy.
“The first round of the league and the battle to stay up on the continent were challenging. It became really tough after that loss in Sudan but we picked up the pieces and so far, we have kept our heads up high.
“My expectations in now is for the team to move to the top because that’s where we belong,” he concluded.
