After failing to leave Tunisia with any point, courtesy of their 3-1 loss to Club African in their first group match of the 2017 Confederation Cup, Nigeria flag bearers, Rivers united FC is set to explode on the visiting FUS Rabat of Morocco today.
Venue is the Yakubu Gowon Stadium and it is the second group match of the series. It is a match that United, the pride of Rivers, can ill-afford to play with and must go for victory to have a realistic chance of fighting for qualification from group A.
Interestingly, Coach Stanley Egwuma, who warned up for the tie with a 1-0 win over Nasarawa United in the domestic league on Saturday is promised for victory.
According to him, the team has been working and has a plan for the Moroccans, whom he sees as being different from Club African.
He said that Rivers United will try to neutralize any antics or strategy they may adopt to frustrate them as the three points at stake would not be negotiable.
Sriker John Odumegbwu, who got United’s consolatory goal in Tunisia, Ayo Saka, who secored at the weekend against Nasarawa United and Cumy Kuemain would be unleashed against the visitors to try to score the required goals.
However, FUS Rabat will hope to cause an upset.
The team seems motivated following their 3-0 win over the Ugandan champions, Kampala Capital City Authority in one of Group A’s opening match two weeks ago.
Coming to this one, the Moroccan giants will be looking to claim a win and ensure they remain on top of the log table.
Rabat currently has  three points and  on top, a win will see them consolidating their spot with six points from two matches.
Campaigners such as Brahim El Bahri, Yusupha Njie and Karim Benarif all found the goals for Rabat in the opening round over KCCA and will hope their carry scoring form into this one.
However, confronting the pride of Rivers  is set to be a test as they will not find easy.
The Nigerian Premier League side occupies the third spot with zero points and will want to bounce back from their loss in Tunisia.
football fans are therefore urged to through the stadium and cheer Rivers United to victory. It is important that the home team secures the maximum points at stake.
The match will kick off at 5.00pm local time.
