Coach Salutes Rivers Utd After Victory
Rivers United coach, Stanley Eguma hails his players’ fighting spirit after they defeated Nasarawa United 1-0 on Saturday.
In the 43rd minute, the Pride of Rivers was reduced to ten men after captain, Festus Austine was sent off for a second bookable offence.
However, the fact that they fought and held on till the end excited Eguma as they moved up 11th spot, temporarily.
“I want to thank my players, it wasn’t an easy victory. After we got the red card in the first half we played under a bit pressure,” Eguma told newsmen.
“But I salute the courage of my players for resisting the pressure from our opponent who had a numerical advantage and then we got the goal and held on strong till the end.
“We wanted to win well knowing that the second round of the league is always very competitive. That red card scattered our plans but we thank God we didn’t lose the match.
“We also used this match as a dress rehearsal for our Caf Confederation Cup match against FUS Rabat of Morocco on Wednesday,” he concluded.
