Association Raises Committee On Fake Engine Oil Dealers
Unregistered dealers of engine lubricants whose stock in trade is to sell adulterated engine oil to unsuspecting members of the public may soon face the wrath of the law as members of Engine Lubricant Dealers (ELD) have set up a monitoring team to apprehend and prosecute such dealers.
National Chairman of ELD, Comrade Segun Braimoh, disclosed this at the 7th Annual Oil Conference organised by NUPENG in Port Harcourt.
Braimoh said, “today, even in the face of economic recession, lubricants industries and the union are greatly distressed with continuous faking and adulteration of lubricants”, adding that such attitude has reduced the profit of the real blenders and killing the image of genuine products.
He equally disclosed that NUPENG would strengthen sanction on any member either in distribution or marketing who gets involved in adulterating products.
Braimoh called on all monitoring agencies as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), and NUPENG would collaborate and put more effort to fish out adulterators and non-licensed blenders as well as importers.
Speaking at the sideline of the conference, Chairman, Port Harcourt Zone of NUPENG, Comrade Charles Eleto, enjoined the monitoring team in Rivers State branch to rise up and unmask those involved in faking lubricants in the state, promising that NUPENG would ensure that the defaulters face the music.
He said fake dealers and fake products were giving the organization a bad image and that no serious organization would like to toy with such a situation.
The labour leader advised those dealing on engine oil but are not registered with the body to register as quickly as possible or be ready to face the actions of the body while also advising members of the public to buy only from registered dealers.
Eleto said apart from money wasted to buy fake engine oil, unsuspecting buyers have also had their machine damaged by the product.
“I therefore charge ELD branch of NUPENG to rise up to the situation, reach out to other stakeholders and sensitize members of the public on what efforts they are making to fight fake and adulterated engine oil in the society.
