Appeal Court Verdict Excites Council Boss
The Chairman of Asari-Toru Local Government Council, Hon Wright Promise Warmate has commended the recent decision of an Abuja High Court to declare unlawful, the Joint Investigative Panel set up by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris, to investigate the alleged violence in the December 10, 2016 legislative re-run election in Rivers State.
Warmate who was reacting on the issue maintained that the decision of Justice Gabriel Kolawole has vindicated Governor Ezenwo Nyesom Wike who has maintained from the beginning that the IGP’s panel was politically motivated, and unknown to the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The council boss also commended the judiciary for its consistency in dismissing the action of the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, challenging the constitution of a Judicial Commission of Inquiry by Governor Wike to investigate the sale of valued assets of the state and the misappropriation of the proceeds by former Governor Amaechi.
He noted that the failure of the former Governor’s appeal, after his challenge was dismissed at the High Court speaks volumes of the incompetence of the action, and a confirmation of the fact that the administration of Governor Wike acted within the law.
According to him,’’ the judgment will further help to enrich Nigeria’s democracy’’.
He advised the police to be objective and professional in their duties, and resist being used by external forces to achieve selfish and political goals.
