Advocacy Group Tasks RSG On Peace Building
A Port Harcourt-based Non Governmental Organisation, Advocacy for Peace, Social Justice and Good Governance, has called on the Rivers State Government to support its efforts at peace building in Rivers State.
The Secretary of the organisation, Mr. Josiah Phannel Ebenezer, who spoke with The Tide in Port Harcourt at the weekend, noted that his organisation had done much in the area of peace building in different communities in the state.
Mr. Ebenezar, who is also a lawyer said his organisation was partnering with the media to end wanton killing in parts of the state.
He said his group had carried out peace campaigns, seminars and workshops aimed at drawing attention of the youth to the festering violence in the state and Niger Delta region as a whole.
The Andoni-born lawyer praised Governor Nyesom Wike for the infrastructural development in the state but implored him to support their effort at peace building.
Mr. Ebenezar stated that the attention of his advocacy group was focused on the northern Ikwerre communities of Omerelu, Apani, Egbeda and Omudioga, where activities of Deygbam and Icelanders fraternities were displacing people from their homes.
He warned that if nothing was done to curb the crises in those communities, there would be a preponderance of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
Mr. Ebenezar implored the state government to support his organization in its building efforts.
He also called on well-meaning individuals to support the organisation to achieve the desired goal.
