2019 Polls: ‘INEC ’ll Make No Mistakes’
As the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) prepares for the 2019 general elections, the commission is determined not to make mistakes in ensuring credible polls.
The INEC Commissioner in charge of South South, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu, who stated this during the flag off of the continuous voter registration last week, in Port Harcourt, warned that the era of thumb printing is gone and that all the processes are digitalised and computerised.
Agbamuche-Mbu said things are not the way they were years back, adding that the commission has moved steps ahead and will continue to modernise its processes to ensure that vote counts and leaders emerge from the mandate of the people.
“INEC is going digital over the years, things are getting computerized, there is no way things will remain the way it was years back’’.
She advised politicians to encourage party members and their supporters to go out and register because the votes are going to count.
She hinted that in the 2019 general elections, collections would be done at the polling units, stressing that the days of thumb printing are over.
“Politicians have no other choice now than to encourage the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise’’, she said.
The INEC boss assured that those who have registered and obtained the Temporary Voters Card (TVC) will get their Permanent Voters Card in the next quarter of the year, explaining that the idea and intention of the commission is to be prepared before the February 2019 general elections.
According to her,we have past the stage of fire brigade approach period, we are working ahead of time and ensure that we do not make mistakes before and during 2019 elections.
Agbamuche-Mbu assured that the commission will continue to review every step taken and make corrections before the general elections.
