The national Vice President of Traditional Sports Federation of Nigeria (TSFN), Mandah Chijioke has said that the exclusion of Abula, one of the popular traditional sports in Nigeria at the forthcoming grassroots development competition in August this year, would slow the pace of development of the game.
Chijioke who is also the South-South Zonal Chairman of the Federation and Chairman, Rivers State Traditional Sports stated that it was not exclude any traditional sports at any competition, now that the interest is high.
The Vice-President who is equally a medical doctor stated these in an exclusive interview with Tidesports on Friday, in Port Harcourt, saying that out of the five traditional sports in Nigeria Abula is the most acceptable internationally.
It is not easy, very challenging to ensure that traditional sports are in proper perspective in the sports environment.
“Besides, for any sports to strive, it needs to be active in terms of attending competitions and tournaments”, Chijioke said.
According to him, there is a high hope that Abula would be included in the sports competition following the appeals and consultations that is ongoing.
“We are trying to work out modalities to ensure that the sport is not left out.
Traditional sports are expected to be promoted and developed at all levels so if they did not include Abula, it is real set back to the sports,” he added.
