Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly (RVHA), Rt. Hon. Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani has urged Christians to make good use of the Easter celebration to pray for God’s intervention in the nation’s economic recession.
Ibani made the call Tuesday while receiving a delegation of Saint Andrews Anglican Church Mile 1 Diobu, Port Harcourt.
According to him, resorting to God had become imperative as policies and programmes so far initiated by the Federal Government to tackle the economic downturn has not yielded the expected result.
He said that the church as one of the hopes of Nigerians should pray to seek the face of God in the collective efforts to bring the recession to an end.
The speaker, who regretted the negative effect of the current recession on some States and even the federal government, expressed pleasant surprise at the measures taken by Governor Nyesom Wike to ensure that Rivers State is exceptional in the face of recession.
According to him, the projects and progammes so far embarked upon by the Governor Wike administration, have shown that recession is not in Rivers State.
The speaker, who also urged Christians to pray for the leadership of the State, said that God favoured  Rivers State because the leadership decided to rule the State in the direction of God’s command.
Also, the Majority Chief Whip of the Assembly, Hon Evans Bipi has called on Christians to pray for political stability and peace in the country.
He further called Christians to pray for the leadership of the State to maintain the part of uprightness to attract more development to the people of the State.
Bipi, who recalled what happened during the rerun elections in the State, expressed God’s favour on the people and that He (God) really want to rule the State.
The lawmaker urged both the youth and people of the State to support the administration of Governor Wike for more development and programmes that would better the lives of the people.
