Shun Corruption, DIG Tells Rivers Police
The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) incharge of training, Mr Emmanuel Inyang, has called on police officers in Rivers State to embrace the anti-corruption crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari administration, and shun all forms of corruption in the discharge of their responsibility.
Inyanga, who also supervises police formations in the South-South geo-political zone made this call while addressing police personnel at the command headquarters in Port Harcourt during his working visit to Rivers State over the weekend.
He stated that the visit was part of his working visit to all police formations within the South-South region and added that the visit would enable him have direct interaction with officers and other stakeholders as well as ascertain the true security condition of the state.
The supervising DIG for South-South informed them that the present police management under the leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Abubakar Idris was passionate about the welfare of police personnel in the country, adding that about 32,000 officers cut across all the ranks and file in the force have so far been promoted.
According to him, the gesture would motive and boost the moral of the officers to put in their best to ensure the security of the nation, adding that arrangement was on to begin a deliberate and sustainable recruitment exercise of an estimated 31,000 officers annually for the period of five years.
Inyang said that the process was to bridge the personnel gap in the force in other to meet up with the international best practise and standard.
He urged them to work in synergy with other sister security agencies in the state, and spoke of the need to sustain the visibility of presence of police personnel within the city, high ways as well as the water ways across the state.
The DIG used the opportunity to commend officers and men of the command for exhibiting high sense of commitment in the discharge of their duties even as he lauded the people of the state for their cooperation with the police, especially in the areas of information gathering, and urged them to continue in that direction.
Earlier in his address of welcome, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaki Mohammed Ahmad, stated that the visit of the DIG would encourage them to do more, adding that officers of the command have been living up to expectations in fighting crime.
Zaki said that the state occupied a strategic position in the economic development of the nation, which according to him, has placed them with enormous tasks in the securing the state.
He assured of their determination to create an enabling environment for all to do business unmolested, and added that with the cooperation and support of all stakeholders in the state they will succeed in the on-going onslaught against criminals and criminality in the state.
