Power Restoration Excites Rivers’ Community

Electricity Consumers in Okehi, the Council Headquarters of Etche Local Government Area and its environs have expressed excitement over the restoration of electricity supply in the area.
Our correspondent who visited the area Thursday reports that the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) has fulfilled its promise of restoring back light in the area.
It would be recalled that Okehi, Igbodo and other neigbhbouring communities had been thrown into darkness following the destruction of about 18 electricity poles by rain storm in the area a month ago.
The rain which was the first rainfall in the area this year came with heavy windstorm which destroyed economic trees and also PHED’s poles thereby resulting in blackout.
Maurice Okachi, a resident of Okehi told The Tide that the restoration of electricity supply is a thing of joy.
Okachi regretted that for the three weeks the outage lasted, most business operators suffered untold hardship.
“We are grateful that PHED has restored light in the area.  Business activities can be done with more ease and social life can also be better now that there is light.
“I advise PHED management to endeavour to operate with only strong and standard electricity poles instead of the type that falls like a pack of card at the slightest rainfall”, he said.
