Participate In Jubilee Events, RSG Urges Residents …As HOS Tasks Publishers On Objectivity
Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has called on the people of the state to massively participate in the ongoing Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Speaking through the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Kenneth Kobani, at the Special Polo Tournament to mark the state Golden Jubilee celebration in Port Harcourt, last Saturday, Wike said the state has introduced popular events to engage the people.
He enjoined the people to participate in the activities as the government was poised to make the celebration a memorable one.
On why polo tournament was picked as one of the events, Wike said “ this government believes in doing things for the people. We are happy polo is becoming a popular sport”.
He expressed appreciation to the organisers and assured that government will continue to participate and ensure that polo sports is made popular and acceptable to the people.
Meanwhile, the state Head of Service, Barrister Rufus Godwins has urged members of River State Publishers Forum (RSBF) to be objective and development-oriented in their publishing business.
Godwins said the body has a role to play to balance reports and cover the grassroots in order to disseminate timely information.
He also enjoined them to be sensitive to the values and culture of the people and ensure that they promote peace and unity of the state.
The Head of Service reminded the publishers of the need to always update their knowledge of on-goings in the media industry and lauded them for organising themselves, “ as a vigilant arm of the realm.
I am glad this is made up of entirely of our own people, sons and daughters of the state. So, there’s need to be sensitive to the things that bind us , he remarked.
Earlier, chairman of the Rivers State Publishers Forum, Chief Monday Wehere had said the visit was part of familiasation and engagement with stakeholders in the state.
Wehere commended the Head of Service for his sterling performance and novel approach to civil service, as he lauded the Wike administration for prompt payment of salaries, pensions and overheads to civil servants.
The RSPF chairman urged the Head of Service to incorporate the media in its activities and programmes, as that will help engender understanding and public support to polices and plans of government.
