Monarch Wants Police, Govt Partnership To Fight Crime
The paramount ruler of Elele-Duro Community in Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, His Royal Highness, Eze Sunny Weli Chukwu has called on the State Commissioner of Police, Mr Zaki Mohammed Ahmed to work in collaboration with the State government in fighting crimes in the state.
Eze Weli Chukwu made the call while speaking with journalists at the state secretariat of the Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt during the visit of the State Commissioner of Police and other top officers of the command to the chairman of the council at the weekend.
He stated with good working relationship with the State government by the various security agents would help to win the on-going war declared against criminals and crimes in the state.
The traditional ruler urged the new commissioner of police to support the on-going Amnesty Programme of the State government and added that the programme had helped to reduce crimes since its introduction in the state.
He used the opportunity to applaud the State governor, Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike for granting amnesty to repentant cultists and militants in the State and added that such gesture would help in promoting the desired peace in the state.
Eze Sunny Weli Chukwu urged the State Police boss to exhibit honesty and sincerity in the discharge of his duty even as he commended him for recognizing that the traditional rulers were critical partners in crime fighting.
He called for the establishment of community policing in the state and noted that such policy would enable various communities become integral agents in the security of the state.
He used the opportunity to thank his people for their peaceful disposition in the area and urged them to continue to live in harmony with one another in other to promote accelerated developments.
