Gunmen Kidnapp PH Poly Lecturer …ASUP Seeks Unconditional Release

A lecturer with the Port Harcourt Polytechnic, Mr Shedrack A Azuku, has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen.
The Tide learnt that the lecturer, who is the Head of Building Technology, School of Environmental Science, at the institution located at Rumuola, Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas was kidnapped along with five others on the Ozuzu-Elele Road in Etche Local Government Area, last Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Port Harcourt Polytechnic chapter of the   Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) condemned the abduction and called for an unconditional release of Azuku.
Chairman of the union, Comrade Victor Ossai, told newsmen in his office, in  Port Harcourt that the development has threatened the forth coming zonal conference of ASUP, which would be hosted by the institution’s chapter.
Ossai said that since Sunday when the incident took place, none of his family members are well as members of the union has been contacted by the abductors.
He also said that the development  was capable of portraying Rivers State in bad light, adding that both the Rivers State Government and security agencies must intensify efforts to ensure the safe and  unconditional release of the kidnapped lecturer.
When contracted on phone yesterday, the state police Public Relations Officer, Mr Nnamdi Omoni, said that his office was yet to be briefed of the incident.
Omoni, however promised to call the Okehi Division of the command to get details of the incident, and get back to our reporter.
